statement
I got the inspiration for my series “Ensemble Fugitifs”
at the ”Marché d’Aligre”, a fruit and vegetable market
in the heart of Paris, close to the Bastille. Every day when the marketeers
leave their stalls, the streets get covered with all sorts of garbage. Before
the streets are cleaned, I pick up thrown fruits and vegetables and stage
them mixed with other things such as broken lamps, toys, old clothes, books,
things that have lost their value… to create immediate still lifes on
the asphalt.
I have chosen a very classic theme ”the still life” which I question
and which I try to reinvent. In order to make a beautiful composition, I make
atypical, maybe even "antiaesthetical" arrangements. The coloring
is saturated and antinatural, even exaggerated. Suddenly natural and artificial
materials seem to fit together. It is not a harmonic or well-done composition.
I am interested in a new way of seeing things.
I also like the fact that my sculptures are transitory;
it reflects our society where things have a very short life and get replaced
very quickly. I consider the way I work as my personal way of recycling and
questioning our consumer society.
