statement
In this series, I invent imaginary landscapes and stage these compositions
on the street.I use waste residing in our environment and band these elements
together with different kinds of weeds growing through the pavement ; I remove
the objects slightly from their original place to create still lifes. I consider
these arrangements like temporary sculptures, allowing for another perspective,
another perhaps more intimate universe.
The transparence of certain objects, their vibrancy, their artificiality produce
a strong contrast with the natural color of the weeds, though at the same
time there is a uniformity. I tried to capture a special lighting ; sunrays
on the dark pavement illuminating these now precious things like a controlled
spot in a studio. I enter the refuse of our society into realms where the
ancient codes cease to exist. The packaging, destined to seduce the consumer
has lost its function, the traditional hierarchy has ceased to work.Suddenly
the mass product becomes singular; it does not have anything to promise anymore,
there are no dreams left to sell.
For a short moment, these compositions, who are programmed to disappear, question
and criticize our consumer society and tell us about the fading of recently
desired things.
